What are Reptiles?

Reptiles are a class of animals that includes turtles, crocodiles, lizards, snakes, and frogs. They are ectothermic (cold-blooded) animals that rely on their environment to regulate their body temperature. Reptiles have a dry, scaly skin that helps them stay hydrated in hot environments.

Most reptiles lay eggs, although a small number give birth to live young. The eggs are incubated either inside the mother’s body or outside in a nest. Some species of reptile are ovoviviparous, meaning the eggs hatch inside the mother’s body and the baby reptiles are born alive.
